Joy To The World

Joy to the World is such a BIG statement.  Joy to the world, the whole world and nothing but the world.  Every beauty pageant entrant ever in the history of the world has wished for nothing less.  Good luck to them, I say.

You've heard the saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"... well I think you could also transfer that statement to "Joy is in the eye of the beholder".  I've got so many fabulous, wonderful, gorgeous friends, but we are definitely not the same when it comes to joy-bringing.  I have one super crazy friend who likes nothing more than to get sweaty in the gym - frequently and/or continuously.  Yuck!  Defo not my idea of joy.  Another friend, a gorgeous piece of humanity on this earth loves gardening - digging and planting and toiling in the midday sun.  Yucko!!!  I have grass in my yard (which my husband takes care of) and dead plants in my house.  Gardening... not my shizzle thanks.

Then there's Nat.  Nat is a peach and I love her to bits.  I told Nat I would dedicate my next blog to her, because she's one of my biggest, loudest and proudest supporters.  Nat's idea of joy is to dress up every day in her Super Woman cape and save lives.  Of course, Nat decided to become an Ambo because she's so goddamn perfect.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not jealous (not too much, anyway) because that's HER joy (her shizzle, if you will).

I'm sure at times it's not so joyous to patch people up on the side of the road or have somebody die in your arms.  But for Super Men and Women like Nat - it's saving  the lives that's joyous and seeing them back safely to their families.  I, however enjoy grilling Nat about all the gory details.  Being the perfect Super Woman she is, it's very difficult to get details from her.

I couldn't take on that responsibility.  It's not the blood - sheesh, having two boys I see blood daily.  It's the PRESSURE.  I would crack under the pressure like a Macadamia nut having a tussle with a hammer.  I don't do stress well - I get all shrieky and breathless and cross-eyed.  Not a good look when you're trying to deliver a woman's baby in the back seat of a car or trying to rescue a cat out of a tree - oh no, that's Fireman Sam.

Speaking of cats - that's Nat's one big downfall.  She's a cat person (could you read the derision in my typing?).  However, the one saving grace is she keeps it in a cage.  Ha!  Take that cat.

Now you've heard all about my crazy, kooky friends you're probably wondering why I've given you an in-depth report on the people in my life?  Pushy...

My point is that wishing joy to the whole world may be a bit out of reach this Christmas.  Maybe we need to start closer to home and start *accepting* people's joy.  If Barry enjoys wearing his wife's underwear who are you to judge?  If Jennifer and Hazel want to get married why should you care?  It's not your life.  What about Greg and Barry (different Barry) wanting to adopt a baby from China?  I'm sure little Chow Li will appreciate living a life of comparative luxury with two people who love him/her very much.

I know people don't change their world views overnight (if ever), however my opinion is that if it's not hurting anybody and doesn't affect your life - chill out. Go and grab a soft-serve ice cream.  Nobody can be angry or upset eating an ice cream in a cone.  Not possible.

That's my soapbox speech for this year.  I didn't mean to offend anybody and if I did I apologise, but your opinions aren't my opinions and we're both entitled to have them.  I'm just lucky enough to have this blog as a way to vent.  They're free from blogspot.com if you're jealous and want to vent yourself.  I'll tell you, it's cheaper than paying a Psychologist!

That's me for today.  Hopefully I'll talk to you again before Christmas, but if not, have a wonderful Christmas and I hope you and your family stay safe.

Cheers
